Food For The Poor (FFP) Jamaica builds Care Centre for St. Elizabeth

Beryl Rochester, Chairman of the St. Elizabeth Care Committee provides an update on the Santa Cruz Care Centre project, during the official opening ceremony of the Centre on Thursday, July 19.  The facility was constructed by Food For The Poor (FFP) Jamaica and will be operated by the St. Elizabeth Care Committee, which is a charity organization that was formed to provide a better quality of life for the mentally ill and homeless in St. Elizabeth.  Recipients will benefit from hot meals, change of clothing, regular bath and all necessary medications and general health care.  During the ceremony, Mrs. Rochester pointed out that the new structure will help to create self-respect, dignity and self-support for those assisted.  Listening keenly to Mrs. Rochester’s presentation were (head table – from left) Rev. Godfrey Watson, Chairman of the St. Elizabeth Care Committee; Rev. OFFICIAL OPENING OF SANTA CRUZ CARE CENTRE

The Hon. Noel Arscot (centre), Minister of Local Government and Community Development; Sheldon Howell, Project Officer at Food For The Poor (FFP) Jamaica and Marcia Mullings-Barrett, Regional Mental Health Officer for the Southern Region prepare to cut the ribbon to signal the official opening of the Santa Cruz Care Centre in St. Elizabeth.  The building, which includes an office, a dining area, kitchen and bathroom facilities, was constructed by Food For The Poor (FFP) Jamaica and is located on the grounds of the Santa Cruz Health Centre. It will help to provide a better quality of life for the mentally ill and homeless persons in St. Elizabeth.  Recipients benefit from hot meals on a regular basis, a change of clothing, a bath and all necessary medications and general health care.  During the opening ceremony, Minister Arscot pledged J$100,000.00 to assist with the immediate needs of the Centre.
